Installed new 60A Tesla EV Charger next to the panel!
We serve Chapel Hill and Carrboro, from older homes near the university to newer communities like Briar Chapel.

Census figures put the median home in both Chapel Hill and Carrboro at 1988, the oldest of any towns we serve, and in Chapel Hill about 35% were built before 1980. Much of our work here is in those older homes, along with EV chargers and lighting in newer ones.
Chapel Hill’s historic districts near campus, including Cameron-McCauley and Franklin-Rosemary, have homes that may need wiring, outlet and panel updates done carefully around original plaster and trim. Ungrounded outlets and kitchens wired for older appliances are common. When a Chapel Hill range died with a spark and a pop, the cause was the old receptacle behind it, which we replaced.
About 56% of Chapel Hill homes and nearly two-thirds of Carrboro’s were built in these decades. Their GFCIs, breakers and outdoor outlets are now worn. In Carrboro we fixed a grounding problem in a switch box that fed the home’s exterior receptacles.
In newer homes, including in Briar Chapel, the work is usually EV chargers, lighting and added circuits rather than repairs.
New outlets and dedicated circuits, GFCI replacements in garages, baths and gardens, and circuits for new ranges, water heaters and bidets. See outlets and circuits.
Vanity, pendant, foyer and closet lights, and LED replacements for older recessed fixtures, often without opening the ceiling. See lighting.
Chargers and NEMA 14-50 outlets in both Chapel Hill and Carrboro, often run from a panel inside the house out to the garage or driveway. See EV charger installation.
Replacing failed main and AFCI/GFCI breakers and checking existing charger circuits for new homeowners. See panel upgrades.
Permits here depend on exactly where the house is. Homes in Chapel Hill go through the Town of Chapel Hill. Carrboro has its own Inspections Division. Unincorporated areas go through Orange County, and Briar Chapel, which has Chapel Hill addresses but sits in Chatham County, goes through Chatham County. We confirm the right office before we start.
Most homes are served by Duke Energy. Piedmont Electric, a cooperative, serves parts of Orange County, so some outlying addresses are on it instead.

Bobby was on time, professional, and very friendly. He explained the process so that we could understand it and answered all of our questions.

I recently hired Roy's Electric for a second time in the last year and a half. Again, the two techs they sent were just great. Right on time, incredibly polite, very professional and very capable. I had several light fixtures to be removed and replacements to be installed.
The guys made sure the new fixtures were installed at the proper place and height before completing each fixture. The old fixtures were removed, and clean up after their work was thorough. On a more personal note, they were so kind to me and to my dog who is not a big fan of visitors.
They did their work well and timely while also engaging with the dog to make everyone more comfortable. Next time I need electrical work at my house, I won't look anywhere else. I highly recommend Roy's Electric for your electrical needs.

Yes. Briar Chapel has Chapel Hill addresses but is in Chatham County, so permits go through Chatham County.
The Town of Carrboro's own Inspections Division, not Orange County. Chapel Hill homes go through the Town of Chapel Hill, and unincorporated areas through Orange County.
Most homes are served by Duke Energy. Some addresses in outlying Orange County are on Piedmont Electric. Your bill will show which, and it matters mainly for service upgrades and meter work.
Yes. In Chapel Hill we've run a charger circuit from the crawlspace into the garage, and installed a NEMA 14-50 outlet with 3/4-inch conduit and 6-gauge wire. We'll plan the route with you before we start.
