Electrical work in Cary
Roy Electric is based on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary, and Cary is where we do most of our work, from downtown to Preston, Amberly and West Cary.

Cary is home base. Our office is on Kildaire Farm Road, and we’ve done more work in Cary than in any other town. Census figures put the median Cary home at 1999. Roughly half were built since 2000 and most of the rest in the 1980s and 1990s, so the typical Cary house is old enough for its original panel and devices to be wearing out but new enough to have modern wiring. Preston, Amberly, Wessex, Carpenter Village and Coventry Glen are where we work most often.
About 39% of Cary’s homes date from these two decades. Their panels, breakers, switches and outlets are now 25 to 45 years old. GFCI outlets fail, breakers stop holding, and kitchens built for fewer appliances run short on circuits. Most of our Cary repair and replacement work is in these homes.
Newer homes have garages, finished bonus rooms and tall ceilings. The requests here are EV chargers, extra circuits, and lighting and fans that go beyond what the builder put in. In Greenwood Forest we hung a fan 16 feet up in a screened room and rewired the switch box to control it.
About 12% of Cary homes were built before 1980. These need the most careful work: older panels, fewer grounded outlets, and decades of add-ons by previous owners.
Lighting is our most common Cary job: fixture and chandelier installs, dimmers, recessed lights, and LED fixtures to replace failed cans and garage lights. See lighting.
We add outlets and dedicated circuits for upstairs offices, garage freezers and fridges, and kitchens that trip breakers. When the panel is in the garage and the room is upstairs, we run the circuit through the attic or between floors with as little drywall work as possible. See outlets and circuits.
Fans for bedrooms, porches and great rooms, including rooms that only had a light. If the ceiling box isn’t rated to hold a fan, we replace it with a fan-rated brace before hanging anything. See ceiling fans.
We replace main panels and subpanels, swap failing breakers, and add whole-home surge protectors, relocating breakers so the protector sits closest to the incoming power, as we did in a Heritage Pines panel. See panel upgrades and surge protection.
Electrical permits in Cary come from the Town of Cary’s Inspections & Permits office at Town Hall on North Academy Street. Smaller residential jobs usually qualify for a trades permit, which doesn’t need plan review. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection.
Most Cary homes are served by Duke Energy. Some addresses on the Apex side of town get their power from the Town of Apex’s electric utility instead. Your bill shows which you have, and it matters when a job involves the meter or a service upgrade.

Bobby was incredible. Assessed our needs, communicated well throughout, was considerate of the spaces he needed to cut to access the electric lines, and left us feeling extremely confident with the work done.

Often, yes. It depends on where the panel is and whether the HOA has rules for exterior work. Send us a photo of your panel and parking spot and we'll tell you what's possible.
Sometimes, but not always. In one Amberly home we traced whole-house dimming to a loose neutral connection at the meter, which is the utility's equipment. We test at the panel and the meter before replacing anything, and if the fault is on the utility side we tell you what to report.
Call or text our office, or send us the details and a photo and we'll follow up to schedule a visit.
